Double Diamond celebrated in style at Drumard Primary
TAMLAGHT O’Crilly was the lucky village to celebrate not one but two Jubilee celebrations on Thursday 31st May. The village primary school, Drumard Primary was in right royal company as they too have been in business for 60 years.
The school which is very much at the heart of its local community celebrated both the Queen’s diamond Jubilee and the anniversary of the school’s initial opening on the existing site with a spectacular street party, led by the newly crowned Prince and princess, the winners of the regally themed fancy dress competition.
‘Former’ acquaintances from the school’s opening in 1952 (they prefer not to be called ‘old’ acquaintances) enjoyed the cream teas as they reminisced over class registers and photos of bygone decades.
The highly successful event which was organised by Drumard Primary school Parents’ Association brought young and old together with stalls, bouncy castles, a pet show and a barbeque. Entertainment for the evening was provided by Tamlaght O’ Crilly pipe band and Eden Concert group with compere Wesley Tomb judging competitions including the ‘glamorous granny’ and ‘pet that looks most like its owner.’ Thanks to support from a grant from Magherafelt Borough Council, the Parents’ Association were also able to donate two new picnic tables to the school.
The Parents’ Association and Drumard School would like to thank everyone who supported the event in any way. It was a thoroughly enjoyable, memorable occasion which provided a great opportunity for Tamlaght O’Crilly and the locality to demonstrate the true spirit of rural communities.
