Win an early Spring in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care

Anyone who has benefited from the support of Marie Curie Cancer Care, whether patients or their families, always expresses a profound sense of gratitude for their extraordinary work.

This year in Northern Ireland Marie Curie nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals will care for almost 2,000 people with a terminal illnesses as well as provide support for their families. The care provided is free of charge and available to anyone with a terminal illness, not just cancer.

A year ago, talented Kilrea artist Conor Larkin lost his father Eugene after a hard battle with cancer. Conor and his family were very moved by the dedicated support given to them all at that time by Marie Curie’s nursing team and really wanted to show their appreciation.

To this end, Conor has donated one of his much-sought-after, vibrant and original oil paintings of the local landscape, to be raffled in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Conor’s painting, ‘Portglenone Bluebells’ is a subject he has revisited following rapturous appreciation and public demand. Conor paints his local landscape and the rural scene with a native’s familiarity, fondness and keen observation. His richly textured oils are characterised by a vivid palette that somehow captures the drama and excitement we feel when experiencing our beautiful Northern Ireland landscape. In this piece spring sunlight filters through the trees and illuminates a carpet of glowing flowers in Portglenone Forest, a well-known beauty spot that attracts hoards of visitors every spring.

The raffle will take place at a Festive Night of Music and Craic, which will ‘kick off’ at 8.30pm on Friday 28th December 2012, at the Old Point Inn, Drumagarner Road, Kilrea. This is the place to really relax and indulge in the spirit of the season, all in a great cause. Come and listen, or better still, take part in the session. Not to be missed!

If you aren’t lucky enough to win Portglenone Bluebells, there are other very enticing prizes, kindly donated by local businesses such as Donaghy Bros, McAtamney’s Butchers and the Wild Duck Inn.

You can also find ‘Conor Larkin Art’ on Facebook, to see more examples of Conor’s accomplished and original work.

Raffle tickets are available on the night, or beforehand, by donating through http://www.justgiving.com/Conor-Larkin
