IT'S been widely accepted that Kilrea man Robyn G Shiels is one of the finest artists working in this country today.
With that in mind, he brings his one man acoustic show to Bryson's in Magherafelt this Thursday, picking up the pieces where LaFaro left off last week.
Working alongside fellow contemporaries, including some of the most exciting artists making waves today, Shiels has created haunting song after beautiful song after brilliant song.
There's more despair lurking under some of those creations than you might have room for but watch as they ease their way in, threatening to change everything you ever knew about so called singer-songwriters.
But of course you will all know that - after all this is a man who has recorded material for Radio One, guested on a Los Angeles radio station and had been playlisted in Spain and Norway - all while supporting the likes of Cat Power, Van Morrison and Richard Hawley.
Early recordings showed a man with an intense grip on the world while newer material is more expansive and varied, the result of long hours in Belfast's Start Together Studios
And while Shiels' music is some of the best around you should be advised to bring sanity in large measures. Music to coax people from the edge of depression this is not, but thankfully so.
His pithy, considered music travels well, across continents and into the deeper ends of your imagination. Robyn rocks, but in a very individual way.
And his new EP 'The Great Depression' will be released on Belfast based imprint Only Gone Records later in the summer.
Catch the man, the myth and the legend when he plays at Bryson's weekly Thursday showcase this week (Thursday 2 July). Admission is just £5.
Robyn G Shiels will be supported by an acoustic set from local songwriter Roisin Trainor.
