Due to Christmas and the weather it had been six weeks since Cookstown had last played competively.
Cookstown is currently sitting 5th in the league and Saturday's result will help them maintain this position.
From the start Cookstown showed gr
eat dominance putting the pressure on the Portadown defence. Cookstown's midfield of Hughes, Brown and Brown were relentless in creating havoc to Portadown and created severly opportunities to score but Portadown packed the circle making it diificult to capitilise.
Portadown created one penalty corner aganist the run of play and unfortunately for Cookstown they made no mistake, giving them an undeserved lead.
This fired Cookstown up more and they managed to get several penalty corners but luck was not on their side as Portadown prevented any goals. An excellent opportunity by C Brown saw her shot deflected into the body of the Portadown defence but an umpiring deceision saw Portadown get the advantage against a Cookstown stroke.
Cookstown pressure increased in the second half with Portadown never really threatening up front. L Burton was tested once but showed no difficulty in clearing the ball.
Cookstown pressure and dominance was greatly maintained with L Hughes showing strong running from left to right opening up the Portadown defence. Leigh's skill and persistence paid off when she found herself on the back line running towards the goal managing to find the back board from a narrow angle. Cookstown had got the goal which they deserved.
Cookstown were slightly dissappointed with a draw after a game in which they showed much more dominance and skill. However another point on the board and lots of positive play to take into their next game.
The Ladies are away to Priorians next Saturday.
