Big weekend ahead for local Camera Clubs

This Saturday night (February 23) and Tuesday (February 26) are the next big, free of charge, nights for local camera clubs that make up the NI Photographic Association.

Saturday night will see Shorts Recreation Club from Holywood as hosts when Peter Cheetham, President of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain, present a special lecture after selecting entries for the NIPA exhibition in the Waterfront in March.

Peter’s lecture starts at 7.30pm at the Shorts Camera Club ‘base’ in an evening that is free to NIP club members. This will be a highlight of the year when Peter and his wife Carol will discuss and critique about one hundred prints for their acclaimed fully illustrated ‘Two Together’ series lecture. Clubs are asked to remind members to come along to what promises to be a great evening.

Hot on the heels of that, Carrickfergus Photo Society will host on Tuesday, February 26, the showing of the fourth round of NIPA inter-club competition where this ‘Open’ subject round is sure to be hotly contended.

The results showed that things are really starting to take shape in the championship which gives clubs a chance to see how well their images rank in three categories: Colour Print, monochrome Print and Projected Digital Images.

In the run up to this clubs were back in action last week at the third round of the NIPA inter-club competition which was hosted by Belfast Photo Imaging Club. This particular competition pushed the artistic boundaries somewhat with the ‘Triangles’ subject seeing some interesting interpretations come forward.

Mid-Ulster Camera Club have been starting to make steady progress recently and in the PDI section, Roisin Monaghan took a superb joint second place and was the highest placed from within her club.

Dungannon and Cookstown Camera Club showed the power of consistent scoring and on the night took a fourth in the PDI section which in turn helped them move into sixth overall.

Eileen McCausland also received a special award after her big results in the recent PAGB selection series.

In the PDI section Magheralfelt’s Harry Dale made it to joint second and not only did that give his Christian Brothers Club first overall in the section on the night, but also first overall in that section of the championship and also a first overall in the championship.
