Drop in leisure services income

OVERALL leisure services in the Magherafelt District Council area recorded a decrease in income when compared to July last year, while performing on a par with regards to throughput for the same period.

The council’s monthly meeting heard the overall decrease in income can mostly be attributed to a very significant payment at Meadowbank Sports Arena which was received in July 2011 for the Irish Indoor Athletics Championships.

The Arena did not host the event this year as it is rotated around venues. However the council is hopeful that it may return to Meadowbank again in 2013.

Director of Operations Andrew Cassells tol members that the main leisure centres had reasonably similar experiences.

Maghera Leisure Centre and Meadowbank Sports Arena performed on a par and recorded a small decrease respectively, while both centres performed on a par with regard to throughput.

Tobermore Golf Centre recorded a decrease in both income and throughput compared with July 2011.

Last year the Golf Centre had benefited enormously from the Rory McIlroy/Darren Clarke effect after the Northern Ireland golfers won the US Open and Open Championships respectively.
