Artist Ivor's one man show
MID-ULSTER artist Ivor Coburn (pictured) is at the 'art' of a one-man show in Belfast, highlighting his work over the past ten years.
Over 50 paintings are currently being exhibited in the Old Northern Bank in Waring Street until Saturday (June 5).
Apart from being a prolific artist, Ivor is a Council member of the Royal Ulster Academy, President of the Ulster Watercolour Society, a founder member of the Society of Botanical Artists and a Committee Member of the Irish Watercolour Society.
Ivor is an internationally-acclaimed artist whose work has been exhibited widely throughout Europe, accepted by the Royal Academy in London, and his paintings are held in public and private collections worldwide.
Among his many awards are six gold medals from the Royal Horticultural Society for watercolours, and the Perpetual Gold Medal (twice) from the Royal Ulster Academy. A number of his oils and watercolours have been marketed worldwide as prints.
Ivor’s works have been used in Illustrations in books on the technique of watercolour painting, and as botanical illustrations.
He is a former student of Belfast College of Art, and of Leeds University.
The Magherafelt man said he was quite nervous but nevertheless excited about the prospect of the show.
“I hope that as many people as possible will drop by to view the paintings, and perhaps share some of experiences and images which have inspired me over the years,” he said.
John Sherlock, Honorary Secretary of the Royal Ulster Academy said this is a compelling and vibrant body of work.
“It reflects not just the breathtaking range and style of Ivor’s paintings, but also his extensive travels across Europe, from Roundstone to Giverny, and from Provence to his native Magherafelt,” he added.
“Ivor’s exhibition is a unique opportunity to admire and purchase some stunning and vivid paintings by one of Ireland’s most accomplished watercolourists. He has made a significant contribution over many years to the vitality and quality of the visual arts in Ulster.”
The exhibition runs until Saturday from 11am to late.
