Pomeroy Players presents spooky new play
POMEROY Players are presenting their new production, The Weir by Conor McPherson which will be performed next week.
The play will be performed at St Mary’s Hall, Pomeroy on Thursday 23 and Sunday 26 February and The Burnavon, Cookstown on Friday 24 February. The show starts each night at 8.00pm.
Set in a rural pub in the Co Leitrim/Sligo area, it is a stranger comes to town story with a difference. A vacant house in the area, which supposedly had witnessed strange goings on in times past, has been occupied by a Dublin lady, Valerie.
She is brought into the bar to ‘introduce her to the natives’. The history of the house, the previous occupant and the strange happenings are recalled, as one story follows another, becoming increasingly spooky but not necessarily true, until Valerie recalls an experience she had which stops the locals in their tracks.
The Weir has been described by theatre critics in the London press as ‘a spellbinder that tranfixes you’, ‘bewitching fluency ...locating the greatest emotions in the smallest details, a faultless ear for idiom’, ‘with writing that is rich, vivid and often wonderfully funny, McPherson has achieved something remarkable’.
The play will also be performed at the forthcoming drama festivals in Newtownstewart, Portadown, Enniskillen, Castleblaney, Straband and Carrickmore.
