Jimmy sees future in Joseph

WELL known Cookstown man Jimmy Cowan is delighted to be returning to the role of Jacob in SPPS/Bardic’s latest offering of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat which opens in just over two weeks in Donaghmore.

Jimmy has been a Bardic Theatre member for over twenty years having played numerous roles since Bardic’s beginning in 1982 with the notorious no nonsence Mr. Bumble in Oliver to more varied roles in musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Blood Brothers, Bardic Blockbusters, Cabaret and The Buddy Holly Story.

As a lover of plays throughout his life he’s always played the comedy man in roles such as Lt. Rooney in Arsenic & Old Lace and John-Willie Todd in Wesley Burrow’s Affluence to name just a few.

For Jimmy the role of Jacob fits him more gracefully as each year passes. More recently he’s become somewhat of a local celebrity regularly teaming up with fellow local Carol Doey to put on many ‘House Party’ specials around Mid-Ulster.

In the story of Joseph, it is Jacob, a prophet, who see’s the future and his son Joseph’s calling in life, thus saving the House of Israel. Jacob favours his son greatly and gives him a multi-coloured coat. This greatly upsets Joseph’s eleven other brothers who decide to take matters in their own hands.

“As a Bardic veteran I’m delighted to see a new breed of local talent come through and this promises to be another excellent box office smash hit” said Jimmy “It’s been a pleasure to work with such a talented director, Lauren Hamill, and Musical Director Damien Cullen…I look forward to seeing you all”
