People in the South Derry area are being encouraged to share memories, stories, local knowledge, photos or other images relating to the 38 townlands.
This Saturday (April 12) there is a chance for people to call in to 50 High Street, Draperstown (next to the library) from 10:30am to 4pm and talk to one of Sperrins Gateway Landscape Partnership’s project researchers.
Anything discussed or brought will be added to the other research carried out.
“Everyone has stories about their area, their field names or local people,” explained Craig Sands, Researcher for Sperrins Gateway.
“Often they think that their stories and memories are not important or that other people know much more than them. The reality is that every individual and family connected to a townland will have different stories, knowledge, and experiences and these are a very important part of the local history.”
A member of the project team will be there to talk to people and record their information.
If you would like to help or need further information contact Craig on 07778 758033.
