Sun shines on Ampertaine Jubilee celebrations

THE pupils of Ampertaine Primary School celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in style with a full scale street party held on the school grounds last Friday.

Every pupil and staff member was dressed to impress in the red, white and blue of the union flag.

The school’s cooks, Louise Brownlow and Jackie McWilliams prepared a feast fit for the occasion with fayre to please all tastes, even Her Majesty the Queen (also known as Governor Gail Cunningham) who made a surprise appearance.

The 120 children were entertained by the school’s musicians who treated them to renditions of popular classics such as The Londonderry Air, London Bridge and Forever With the Lord. There were blues numbers from the flautists and the entire musical group led the singing of the National Anthem.

There was only one speech: Joanna Kyle, School Council Chairman gave a short history of Queens Elizabeth’s life and outlined her important contribution to the life of our nation and the Commonwealth.

Leah Houston, secretary of the School Council, said grace before the magnificent feast.

The school, as always, thanks all those parents and friends who helped to make this such a memorable day for all. Readers might be interested to know that a display of photographs of this event will be on display in the school, alongside copies of photos from the school’s Golden Jubilee celebrations 10 years ago.

The photos can be seen at the school’s summer fair which is being held on Friday, June 8 at the school from 6pm to 8pm.
