A music teacher, who just last week, released her first ever music single is taking Youtube by storm.
Mairéad Duffy, who has been teaching at St Patrick’s (girls’) Academy for 18 years, posted the track on the social media site on Sunday, November 24.
And already she has had over 5,300 hits on the video for her debut song - Little Bridge.
Mairéad, who is an accomplished musician, plays piano and sings on the track.
But, she’s also a very talented harp player - the instrument, she admits, most people would associate her with.
Talking to the MAIL about writing and launching her opening song, she said: “Being a music teacher for this long, it’s been something that has been at the back of my mind for quite a while.
“It’s the plan that it will be the start to an album (but) I’ve gone ahead with the single in the hope that it will get interest and chat going. I didn’t want to wait.
“I’m hoping that when people listen to it that it will evoke some sort of response - I’m really proud of it,” she said.
Delighted with the video for the song, she added: “I think the video really reflects the kind of sentiment and the joy behind the song.
“I think it captures it really, really nicely and I’m really proud of that.”
Mairéad, who’s originally from Galway, now lives in Clonoe with her family.
Having studied music at Jordanstown, her previous past experience was in developing more instrumental or orchestral tracks.
And although, she said, she has written songs with Irish lyrics before, this was her first time penning a song in English - a much more exposing process, she explained, as there’s nothing to hide behind.
Mairéad Duffy’s new single Little Bridge is available to download from CD Baby, iTunes and Amazon.
The video is available on Youtube, The Mid Ulster Mail and Tyrone Times websites.
