Watch: Cookstown’s finest honoured at Civic Awards

Residents of the Cookstown District Council area who have excelled in the fields of Art & Music, Industry and Sport this year were honoured at last week’s Annual Civic Awards held at the Burnavon Arts and Cultural Centre.

Hosted by Cookstown District Council, and co-ordinated by the Council’s Civic Awards Committee , the awards are a way of acknowledging and celebrating the exceptional talents within the District.

The ceremony recognised those who within the field of arts and music are competition winners at Competitions at Provincial, All Ireland or UK level.

In the field of Industry achievements were recognised from individuals/companies who have brought distinction to themselves, their industry or to the District Council area through individuals or organisation attainment.

Within the field of sport, achievement were recognised from individuals, organisation or clubs who are completion winners within their sport at a Provincial, All Ireland or UK level or who are representing their Country at International level.

Chairman of Cookstown District Council, Cllr, Wilbert Buchanan presented the awards saying:“As a Council we welcome the opportunity to make others within our District indeed throughout Northern Ireland award of the exceptional talent that is here.

“What you contribute to the region is outstanding; the talent of our artists, the commitment and dedication of our sporting heroes, the drive of our local businesses is second to none and tonight we as a local authority duly recognise all that is good about the Cookstown District”.

As well as recognise in the success of many individuals and teams across all three arenas on evening, tribute was also paid to the commitment and dedication of the nominees’ mentors, who have worked quietly in the background, helping them as individual s or groups to accomplish such wonderful achievements.
