Funding for new road works in the Magherafelt district in the coming year is £2,48m, the local District Council was told.

The Divisional Roads Manager Conor Loughrey said this will be sufficient to carry out a number of schemes in the area including an extension of the cycle path to Castledawson roundabout and a new Puffin crossing at Church Street, Maghera.

Mr Loughrey said the funding would also go towards a range of traffic management measures, including traffic calming and safer routes to schools schemes.

“A budget of £1.325 million for large minor works has been secured to carry out the first phase of the realignment of A29 Desertmartin to Tobermore Road at Killytoney,” he said. “In addition a programme of schemes will be progressed to an advanced state of readiness should extra funding become available.”
