DUP Mid Ulster MLA and Cookstown District Councillor Ian McCrea has welcomed the announcement that funding will be made available from the Northern Ireland Executive to support flood victim.
“Saturday’s rainfall was the worst that we have seen in Northern Ireland for some time and as a result many properties throughout the Province as well as my constituency of Mid Ulster have suffered severe damage,” he said.

“I welcome the announcem
ent that the Finance Minister Mr Nigel Dodds has approved funding to the emergency payment scheme which was requested by the Environment Minister Sammy Wilson and will now be administered by the local councils.

“I believe that this is further evidence that devolution is working and that the DUP are at the fore in working for the good of the people of Ulster.

“It is important that people get as much evidence of their flooding to present to the council to make it easier to process their applications for funding from the emergency payment scheme.

“I will be speaking to the Chief Executives of Magherafelt and Cookstown District Councils to ensure that all applications are processed urgently.

“My deepest sympathy goes out to all those who have had their homes and property damaged by this flooding. I would also like to put on record my appreciation of the sterling work that was carried out by the emergency services over last weekend.”
