A MAGHERAFELT man has been jailed for six months for making over 6,600 indecent images of children.
Joseph Patrick McGovern (47), of Queen's Avenue in the town, pleaded guilty to 48 charges of making the photographs between 2000 and 2008.

Londonderry Crown Court heard that when police searched McGovern's home they also found CDs, computer equipment, and 45 movies of children.

McGovern was also sentenced to three years probation.

He was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for ten years.

The judge told him he must have known when he paid for the sites that it was legally wrong and he was contributing to the child abuse industry.

McGovern was one of a number of men from Northern Ireland apprehended by police following an international operation against child pornography.
