Police assaulted in separate incidents

PSNI INSPECTOR Sue Steen has issued a stern warning following two incidents in which police were attacked in Cookstown.
In the first instance a man was arrested following an altercation in the Blackhill area of the town at approximately 2.15am on August 14th.

The man headbutted two officers, one of whom was a female, and was arrested on two accounts of assault on police, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and disorderly behaviour. He will appear at East Tyrone Magistrates Court on September 5.

A woman who was also at the scene was arrested for disorderly behaviour and has been reported to the PPS.

In the second incident a taxi driver stopped his car at Cookstown Police Station on Sunday 17 August when one of his passengers was causing trouble.

Police went to assist and arrested a 20 year old male from the Cookstown area on charges of disorderly behaviour, resisting arrest and assault on police. He is due to appear at East Tyrone Magistrates Court on September 12.

Inspector Steen warned anyone who assaults police that they will be dealt with robustly with a view to being charged as quickly as possible.
