COYLE'S Cottage Women's Group in Ardboe recently enjoyed a talk by Action Cancer, Northern Ireland's leading local charity, with the help of Cookstown and Western Shores Area Network (CWSAN).
Earlier this year Action Cancer received a grant of £40,000 from the NHSSB to carry out health programmes to eight areas within the Board.
The programmes involve delivery of a Female Health Living Programme and a Male Healthy Living Programme de
livered over six sessions and two visits from the Action Cancer BIG BUS which offers breast screening (40-49 and 65 plus), MOT health checks and Listening Ear and complementary therapy for those affected by cancer.
The Community Involvement Programme based at CWSAN has been instrumental in helping Action Cancer to organise the various talks and also the future BIG BUS visits in the rural Cookstown area.
Ciara Boyle, BIG BUS Services Manager for Action Cancer said: “Action Cancer work to save lives and support people affected by cancer in Northern Ireland and the grant has made it possible for us to bring our prevention, early detection and support services to the Lough Shore area. We would like to thank NHSSB, Emma Cassley and the various partners in the Cookstown and Western Shores Area Network area for helping to organise these visits and we hope they will have a positive impact on those living in vicinity.”
The Action Cancer BIG BUS will visit Kinturk Cultural Centre on Tuesday, July 29.
The main sponsor of the Big Bus is retail group SuperValu and its independent retailers. As part of SuperValu’s long-term commitment to Action Cancer’s mobile cancer services, which they have sponsored since 2001, the independent retail group is funding over £600,000 towards the £1.5 million needed for the Big Bus in the first three years.
