Aimee’s supermodel ambitions

COOKSTOWN girl Aimee O’Donnell is in the running for a prestigious modelling contract.

She is one of hundreds of wannabe supermodels who attended auditions for a prestigious modelling competition organised by leading fashion retailer DV8 last week.

Hopeful contestants, including Aimee and her mum Mary, joined the huge queue outside DV8’s flagship store at Castle Place, Belfast.

Organisers say that for the fourth year in a row they have been overwhelmed by the response to the competition, launched to find the ‘Face of DV8 – a coveted prize which will see a male and female winner become the faces of the fashion chain for a year.

DV8, which has stores across Northern Ireland, including Cookstown and Magherafelt, launched the 2011 Face of DV8 competition just six weeks ago to search for budding models aged 17 to 30 years old to represent the DV8 brand in advertising and press campaigns for twelve months.

Contestants do not have to have modelling experience.

The lucky male and female winners also get a contract with leading model agency Alison Campbell Models, £500 worth of DV8 clothes vouchers and hair styling by award-winning salon Paul Stafford Hairdressing for twelve months.

A shortlist of sixteen contestants will be announced in the next few weeks and the two winners will be chosen by the start of June.

The competition, different because it will have a male as well as a female winner, is being judged by model agency boss and organiser of the Miss Northern Ireland contest Alison Campbell, celebrity hair dresser Paul Stafford and one of Ireland’s best known photographers Khara Pringle.

Carrie-Anne Burton (21), from Downpatrick Co Down, the female winner of the inaugural Face of DV8 competition in 2008, has since signed contracts with London agency TESS Management and Ford Models in New York.

She is with Morgan the Agency in Dublin and Alison Campbell Models in Northern Ireland.

Since joining the top agencies Carrie-Anne has worked for some of the world’s best-known fashion designers, including Vivienne Westwood, Chanel and John Rocha, and is now a regular on the catwalks of New York, London, Paris and Barcelona.
