The first stage of the redevelopment of Bellaghy’s former police station and manor house opened yesterday when the allotment keys were handed over to their proud new owners.
Bellaghy Village Allotments are 17 in number, and come with a storage shed, a large polytunnel and planters, with careful landscaping all adding to their appeal. All of the allotments have been allocated to local people and groups and it is anticipated that Bellaghy will begin holding regular street markets this year as an outlet for our new growers and gardeners.
The Bellaghy Village Allotments are funded by Magherafelt District Council in association with Bellaghy Village Regeneration Groups who have taken allotments include Bellaghy Baptist Church, Bellaghy Youth Group and Bellaghy Village Regeneration
Future development of the former Manor House site will include a brand new community facility and a museum dedicated to local Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney who passed away last August.
