Ant and Dec support family fun day

YOU could win some signed Ant and Dec goodies at the 'Step Back In Time' cross-community family fun day which takes place on Saturday (May 30) at Corrick Road, Draperstown from 9:30am.

The Gray family from Draperstown are aiming to raise money for a new integrated cancer centre for Mid-Ulster.

All proceeds will go towards Charis - Mid-Ulster’s first unique Integrated cancer centre. Admission is 5 for adults while children are admitted free.

Exhibitors will include ‘Little Farm Adventure’ which runs from 10am to noon and this is aimed at children aged 11 and under.

The farm exhibitions run from 12:15pm until 2:30pm.

From 2pm to 3pm there will be a flower demonstration with James Burnside. The flowers have been sponsored by Cloverhill Fuels of Maghera. All flower arrangements will be auctioned.

Organisers will also be presenting ‘A Day In The Life Of Granny.’The milk for the demonstration will be supplied by PJ Conery of Desertmartin.

Excitement continues as ‘It’s A Knock Out’ is staged from 3pm to 5pm. The first prize will be a half-day paintball session at the Jungle in Moneymore, courtesy of Robert Carmichael. There are also medals for the first and second placed teams sponsored by Glenview Trophies of Maghera. There will also be a prize for the highest collector - a meal for two in Moyola Golf Club, courtesy of BS Catering, Castledawson.

Pig racing takes place from 5pm to 6:30pm with cash prizes for the winners. It’s 10 to sponsor a pig. The owner of the winning pig will be entered into a draw to win a cash prize.

There will also be a prize for the highest collector and this will comprise of a meal for two at Apparo Restaurant, Draperstown, sponsored by Peter Hegarty. The actual pig racing event will be sponsored by Richard Beattie, Gortin Livestock Sales, Main St, Gortin in addition to Bulk Transport Ireland, Dunamore Rd, Cookstown and Mid-Ulster Tractor Parts, Glengomna Rd, Draperstown. The races have also been generously sponsored by businesses at 50 each: S. Hepburn & Sons Agriculture Contractors, Draperstown; Maghera Fencing; N. F.U Mutual, Magherafelt; and TFR Refrigeration Ltd, Draperstown.

There will also be an auction with a range of great items, many of which are rare and collectible. These include a portable clothes line, a black Labrador pup, a ewe and lamb, a Vodafone Nokia 1208 mobile phone, a flower arrangement by James Burnside, bags of turf, bins of turf, a hand-painted picture, an electric mahogany effect, hostess trolley, an ornamental letter box, a flight in a hot air balloon (weather permitting), a boxing glove signed by Henry Cooper, a rugby ball signed by the Ulster rugby team, a cap signed by Adrian Archibald (motorcycle racer), a Suzuki team shirt signed by five of the world's top class riders, a framed All Blacks rugby shirt signed by captain Richard (Ricky) McCaw (this item can be viewed at J.B.Tyres Tobermore), various team signed GAA shirts: current All Ireland champions Tyrone and current National League Champions Kerry and '93 All Ireland Champions Derry, as well as several signed team soccer shirts from English premiership clubs.

A revolving wooden stool, a voucher for 1/2 ton of cattle or sheep meal, a signed Ant and Dec calendar, a Britain’s Got Talent Mug signed by Ant and Dec, signed Liverpool shirt, and various Liverpool match programs, some dated back to the1960s. In additon there is an Eoghan Quigg signed album, a voucher for several bags of meal, limited edition pictures by Dennis Ferguson which includes a set of six framed prints of Lough Fea, a picture of Lough Erne and a picture of Glenda Lough Donegal. Lauri O’Kane and Son, Cahore Rd, Draperstown, will conduct the auction.

The tractor reversing competition will also generate interest on the day and there will be a cup for the winner, sponsored by WJ Hanna Machinery Ltd. The tractor has been kindly donated for the day by Paddy Toner, Derrynoid Lane, Draperstown.

Another machinery event taking place is the ‘Digger Stack The Kegs’. PMD Contracts Ltd Moneyneena Rd, Draperstown, has sponsored the digger for this event.

A country-dance will be held that night in the Shepherd’s Rest withmusic by Country Traditions. The proprietors, the Doyle family, have provided the band at no cost to the charity. They have also donated first prize for the raffle, which is four tickets for their annual barbecue. Second prize will be a 60 gift voucher courtesy of Sperrin Pure Water Cleaning Services of Draperstown. Third prize has been donated by the parents in the Gray family, and consists of a beautiful lamp and a set of pictures.

Admission is 5 and dancing is from 10pm until 1am. A variety concert will also take place with musicians performing.
