BALLINDERRY SDLP Councillor, Christine McFlynn, has welcomed the start of repairs and maintenance work on Ballinderry Bridge.

Roads Service officials will be clearing vegetation from the bridge along with completing some masonry repairs, it is understood.

Cllr McFlynn said the bridge had fallen into poor condiiton.

Parts of the bridge had become overgrown with vegetation and in places the bridge itself required repair work”, explained the councillor.

“At that time Roads Service confirmed that work on the bridge had been scheduled to take place.

“We welcome the fact that the promised work has now begun. This will greatly improve the condition of the bridge.

“It is important that the maintenance of our local bridges and rural roads is kept up to date. We cannot allow our rural road network to fall into a state of disrepair and we will continue to highlight areas in which we believe work needs to be done.”
