The brother of a Pomeroy man murdered by the IRA almost 23 years ago has made a fresh appeal to the public for information.

David Hugh Martin (33) was killed on April 25, 1993, when his red Audi 80 car was destroyed by an under-car booby-trap device.

The young father of three, a former UDR soldier who lived outside Pomeroy, was travelling along the Flo Road in Kildress around 7.15am when the bomb exploded, throwing him from his car.

This week, Mr Martin’s brother Philip has called on anyone with information on the murder to come forward and help the investigators working with the PSNI’s Legacy Investigation Branch.

“It has been 23-years since David was murdered and still there have been no answers all this time,” he said.

“I would appeal to anyone to knows anything, or was in the area at the time to come forward and help with the Legacy Investigation Branch.”

People who tried to help the injured man at the scene were unable to save him.

At the time, police appealed for anyone who noticed suspicious activity at the Braeside Bar on Orritor Road where Mr Martin had been the previous night, or at Tulnacross Road where the car had been parked overnight, to come forward.

Mr Martin left behind a widow, Hilda, two daughters aged five and 13 and an eight-year-old son.

In an interview given at the time of her husband’s murder, Mrs Martin appealed for no retaliation. Claims made by the IRA that Mr Martin had a connection to loyalists, were dismissed by the family. Anyone with information on the murder can contact the investigation team on 02892589258.
