A number of local businesses attended a breakfast briefing event to launch Magherafelt council’s The Small Business Supply Chain Programme.

This project is part funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland.

Michelle Lestas, Director of Lestas Consulting Ltd (the programme managers) led the proceedings of the event and commented on the importance of this programme for small businesses in the Magherafelt area.

“This programme is all about helping local companies to manage their supply chain. Over the last few years we have seen the importance of holding less stock, delivering to customers on time, delivering the right products to customers and avoiding delays in the production process. Companies that get this right are surviving and growing. The timing of this programme is perfect as we are focussing on these issues with all our participating businesses at a time when we are seeing some very small developments in our economy.”

Chairperson of Magherafelt Council Cllr Kathleen McEldowney said: “Magherafelt is dominated by small local owned businesses and this programme will provide support for these businesses to develop their supply chain.”

Attending the event was Neill Hyndman, from The Auction Room in Maghera, who said for a new business it was very stressful trying to source quality suppliers.
