THE Sperrins Gateway Landscape Partnership will benefit from a £12,000 Natural Heritage Grant to develop a ‘Spurs of Rock’ geodiversity strategy over the next two years.
Environment Minister Alex Attwood made the announcement earlier this week. The combination of large and small Natural Heritage Grants for 2013/ 2014 will be delivered by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency.
Commenting on the difference these grants will make Minister Attwood said this funding will not only improve a range of habitats for wildlife but it will also benefit the economy and tourism.
“It will support people whose job it will be to share the richness of our environment with our young people and with the visitors who so value our natural heritage.
“We have an opportunity to make use of our clean and green credentials for tourism and economic reasons and I am confident that the money announced today will ensure work continues to enhance our natural environment and make Northern Ireland’s heritage unique and special for all,” he added.
