GAA fans will soon be able to show their support for cancer sufferers following a new partnership launched by a leading GAA glove designer.
CMAC Gloves, a local company based in Coalisland, has partnered with Friends of the Cancer Centre to produce a special edition set of gloves to help raise vital funds for the charity.
All proceeds from the striking black and yellow gloves, which match Friends of the Cancer Centre’s official colours, will go directly back to the charity and help them fund life- changing and life-saving projects in Northern Ireland.
Ryan O’Neill, the man behind Cmac Gloves, has a very close association with Friends of the Cancer Centre after sadly losing his mother in 2012. Ryan later established Cmac gloves in her memory and used her maiden name, Celine McAliskey, as the inspiration for the company’s name, “CMAC”
Ryan said: “My mum was diagnosed with liver cancer in April 2012 and sadly we lost her in November 2012. After being diagnosed, she underwent treatment at the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital and the care and support she received there was immense. I’ll never be able to thank them enough for what they did for mum, but I want to try to give something back by supporting a charity that I know plays such a vital role in supporting thousands of other local people affected by cancer.”
Ryan continued: “Mum was a huge GAA fan and she was the person who spurred me on to get involved when I was younger. She has also been the main motivation behind setting up Cmac Gloves and I know she would have wanted me to use something I love to try to help others. The work that the charity does to help patients, people like my mum, is truly amazing and if this fundraising drive helps even in a small way, I’ll be very happy. Every single penny from every single sale of these special gloves will go straight to the charity, so if you’re involved in GAA and want to show your support for a really great cause, make sure you get a pair.”
The gloves cost £15 per pair and all proceeds from each sale goes to Friends of the Cancer Centre.
The gloves are available directly from the Cmac Gloves website www.cmacgaa.com and you can also purchase from a number of retailers across Northern Ireland, please check website for details.
