Mid Ulster District Council has appointed the contractors who will deliver the £1.9m investment in Magherafelt town centre.

FP McCann will be responsible for the works to enhance the town centre with new paving, lighting, street furniture, signage and planting, in a scheme funded by the Department for Social Development (DSD) and the Council.

Magherafelt will be the third town in Mid Ulster to benefit from public realm investment.

The appointment has been welcomed by Councillor Linda Dillon, Chair of the Council, “Work has begun in both Cookstown and Dungannon and good progress has been made in both. I’m pleased that Magherafelt is now also going to see the benefits of this level of investment in the town centre.

“I look forward now to seeing the scheme designs finalised and to engaging and working together with our retailers, businesses and residents to optimise the benefits own.”

The public realm works will be carried out in The Diamond and connecting streets including Market Street, Rainey Street, Broad Street and Queen Street, and the contractors are expected to be on site in late February/early March.
