Cookstown High School Ski Trip

Pupils and staff have just returned from Ski School in Folgaria Italy.

The trip comprised 24 hours of professional ski instruction over six days with assessment and a race at the end of the week. The resort provided the opportunity to explore over 72km of slopes and opportunities to ski to beautiful mountain villages, through valleys and forrest trails.

Folgaria had its most significant snowfall of the season during the first 3 days of our trip comprising of over 40cm of fresh snow. This was a challenge for beginners but provided amazing opportunity for our more experience skiers to learn more about deep snow and powder skiing.

Within 12hours of skiing all our first time skiers had progressed to slopes higher up the mountain, with peaks rising to to 1850m and by the end of the week everyone had completed a series of more challenging red runs. The advanced groups had the opportunity to experience powder skiing at its best, following the significant snow falls earlier in the week, with an instructors who provided challenge to everyone.

The trip was led by Mr Robert Johnston and Mrs Catherine Hall who commended the progress made by all skiers on this year’s trip.
