Cookstown residents named as new Deputy Lieutenants of Tyrone

Two Cookstown residents have been appointed as Deputy Lieutenants of the County by Lord-Lieutenant of County Tyrone, Mr Robert Scott OBE.

Mrs Meta Bell MBE and The Rev Dr Isaac Thompson TD have both been commissioned as Her Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenants for Co Tyrone.

Meta has been involved in the community life of Mid Ulster for the past thirty years. She has been involved in fundraising for local charities through her interest in music.

She is a vocal tutor in local schools and currently conducts Cookstown Youth Choir, Dungannon Choral Society and First Cookstown Presbyterian Church Choir.

Revd Dr Isaac Thompson, TD, DL, a native of the Coleraine area, has been minister of First Presbyterian Church Cookstown for over twenty years.

He was a school teacher for four years before studying theology and was ordained in 1983.

For eighteen years he was a member of The Royal Army Chaplains’ Department and gained the Queen’s Decoration. Married to Anne from the Roe Valley and now a volunteer administrator with The Alzheimer’s Society.
