Cash van robbed in Cookstown

A CASH-IN-TRANSIT van has been robbed by a man wielding a wrench in Cookstown.

It happened at around 12 noon in the grounds of the Driver and Vehicle Testing Station at Strifehill Road.

The man confronted staff before stealing a cash box. The robber and an accomplice made off in a Toyota Avensis car that had southern registration plates. The car was later found abandoned at Derryloran industrial estate and the robbers are thought to have transferred to another vehicle.

Police want to hear from anyone who saw two cars arriving at the industrial estate before the robbery and the Toyota returning there afterwards and can help identify the second getaway car.
