Police have confirmed that the security alert that closed the Cookstown to Omagh road late last night was an ‘elaborate hoax’.

Army Technical Officers were called to the scene to examine a suspicious object in Creggan at around on Easter Sunday night.

Diversions were put in place after the closure of the main road between the Creggan cross-roads and Garyowen Road.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said this morning that ATO “examined a suspicious object and declared it to be an elaborate hoax”.
