Police pledge unannounced patrols of Magherafelt cemetery

Vandals have attacked the Polepatrick Park/Cemetery complex in Magherafelt on three separate occasions in recent weeks.

The local District Council heard that the PSNI are carrying out “unannounced visits” in an effort to curb the problem.

Decorative plastic chain used to segregate the burial ground from open park was broken, glass bottles smashed in the car parking area and litter bins destroyed.

Elsewhere, council staff replaced a concrete bollard at the entrance to Glenone play area. The bollard had been ripped out.

Residents of O’Neill Park, Ballymaguigan, have complained to the council’s technical services department about the use of the mini pitch adjacent to the estate as a race track. The surface of the pitch has been badly damaged as a result.

A replacement master padlock has been fitted to the entrance gate at the old Council dump site on the Mullagh Road. The existing lock had been forced open.

And small areas of illegal dumping were cleaned up at Airfield Road, Toomebridge and Kilcronaghan Road, Tobermore.

The site attendant at Draperstown CA site disposed of a number of items which had been dumped outside the site gates.
