Tyrone man ordered to hand over £137k under Proceeds of Crime Act

Robert Morrow of Bracky Road, Sixmilecross, was made the subject of the order in the sum of £137,841.62 on Friday, following a confiscation hearing at Dungannon Court on January 20, 2017.

It was secured by Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) following an earlier conviction for waste offences under the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.

He has been given six months to pay the sum, with a default term set at five years imprisonment, in the event that he fails.

An NIEA spokesman said: "The imposition of a confiscation order is designed to remove the proceeds of criminal conduct from those who have benefited from acquisitional crime.

"The sum of the confiscation order in this case, represents benefit derived by Mr Morrow arising from the operation of an unauthorised end of life vehicle site at Sixmilecross, Co Tyrone."
