A COOKSTOWN hair salon has been selected as a finalist in the 11th Annual Schwarzkopf Professional Irish Hairdressing Business Awards.
The Synk, which opened in March 2011, has been nominated for three awards: ‘Ulster Salon of the Year,’ ‘Ulster Trainee of the Year’ and ‘Website of the Year.’ The event will take place in the Aviva Stadium, Dublin on Monday (October 21)
Speaking about the nomination, owner Brenda McGuckin said: “After seeing the quality of the entries and the awards ceremony itself last year, we decided that this year, we wanted to be a part of it. To be a small salon in mid-Ulster, and only in operation two years, being a finalist is just fantastic for us. There are plenty of awards ceremonies around for our industry, but this one is particularly prestigious and our team are very proud to be finalists,” she said.
Trainee hairdresser Aisling Scullion from Cookstown has been working with Brenda and the team since last year and is excited to be nominated in the category of ‘Ulster Trainee of the Year.’
“This is a huge opportunity for someone like me starting off in their career. It’s something I’ve worked hard towards and I’m proud to have achieved this nomination and have my fingers crossed for a great result next week!” she said.
Michael Berggren, General Manager UK and Ireland for Schwarzkopf Professional said without a proper business strategy and good management, no salon could reach its full potential, no matter how good they are creatively.
“The Schwarzkopf Irish Hairdressing Awards were established to recognise the importance of a good business plan, and how important it is to constantly update and evolve the plan to suit the ever-changing business environment. This year’s finalists have shown that they have reacted, adapted and succeeded in the current challenging environment and we applaud them for that,” he added.
This year 42 finalists across 19 categories will compete at the Aviva Stadium for an Irish Hairdressing Business Award. Tickets are available for purchase by calling 01 404 6690.
