A MEETING of the Derry Diocesan Pioneer Council was held recently in the Pastoral Centre, Ardmore.
The Vice Chairman, Joe Brennan, Maghera, welcomed everyone to the meeting and led the opening prayers.
There was a good attendance of delegates from all four deaneries of the diocese.
The report on the recent Pioneer Central Council meeting in Dublin contained information about Child Protection vetting and training.
It was also reported that with the Junior Pioneer Section taking members up to 18 years of age the age of lifelong membership has been changed from 16 to 18 years.
Mention was also made of three new leaflets available from Central Office entitled (1) Promoting Sobriety for a better Society; (2) Think before you drink (to help adults reflect on their drinking), and (3) Let’s really talk about Alcohol (a guide to help parents and their children).
The individual reports from all four deaneries showed that all were working well in their own areas.
The next Annual Derry Diocesan Pioneer Mass will be celebrated by Rt Rev Mons Eamon Martin in Clonmany, County Donegal at 3pm on Sunday, October 7.
A full attendance of Pioneers and their friends from all four deaneries is expected to be present. If it is considered appropriate “Sam Maguire” may also be there.
The next meeting was arranged for Tuesday, November 20, starting at 8pm. The meeting was then closed as usual with the final prayers.
