Duo set off for Mizen to Malin Challenge 2017

This St Patricks day is going to one to remember for local father and son Joe and Paul Molloy.

The pair are about to embark on a colossal Journey from Ireland’s southernmost point Mizen head in County Cork to Malin head in County Donegal, Ireland’s northernmost point.

The journey will cover over 400 miles and take the Derry men just shy of four days to complete. As keen farmers Joe and Paul decided it would be most fitting to do all this using their trusted Valtra N101 -Tractor.

The duo decided to undertake this enormous challenge to raise money for two charities Kilronan Special School in Magherafelt and SANDS a charity which supports families that experience stillbirth and neonatal bereavement. Unfortunately, the pair know all too well about the great work carried out by this charity, after Paul’s son Jack tragically passed away in March 2014. This event will mark a beautiful tribute to Jack’s memory.

A representative of the SANDS charity described the event as “a fantastic and original fundraising event “ In the past Joe has held numerous fundraising events and Kilronan School in Magherafelt is one of his favourites.

Kilronan Principal Mrs Alison Wilson stated: “Joe has always been very generous to Kilronan and we were delighted that he wants to support us again, we wish him safe travels and look forward to following his journey.

“Specialist Joinery Group, along with other local businesses’, JB Tyres, Chambers Coaches and Apparro restaurant Draperstown are backing the trip as main event sponsors.”
