Eight quizzed after Cookstown double stabbing

EIGHT men have been arrested by police investigating two stabbings in Cookstown earlier today.

A 20-year-old man received a stab wound to the head in the first incident at William Street in the town centre at around 2.30am.

The second incident happened about an hour later in the Milburn Street/Moneymore Road area where another man in his 20s was stabbed several times.

Both men were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries which police said are not life threatening.

One of them has since been discharged.

The men, aged between 17 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, aggravated burglary and grievous bodily harm with intent.

Police are appealing for information.
