SDLP Cllr Deirdre Mayo has expressed her concern at the rise in suicide related deaths in the Cookstown area.

On Suicide Awareness Day, the SDLP Cllr for Ballinderry has called on Cookstown District Council to support an SDLP motion asking the Health Minister to show leadership on this issue and adequately fund awareness and prevention services.

Ms Mayo said: “Much more needs to be done to protect vulnerable people against the dangers of suicide. It saddens me greatly to learn of the high number of deaths by suicide in the Cookstown area recently. The SDLP are extremely concerned by this increase in suicides and rise of mental health problems.”
