The Moneymore native, who’s known to friends as Gary, was said to have built his own warped wall after it got the better of him in the last round.

Now he can hold his head high as not only did he scale that wall, but he also finished the incredibly tough windchimes, hand rings and also the brace wall climb to secure his place.

Gareth, who lives with his partner and three young children works for Cookstown’s Lissan Coal Company by day, but has been hard in training for the television show in his time off.

The 33-year-old told the Mail: “You can be as strong as you like, but then you wouldn’t have the gas to get to the end. It’s an all-round course.

“The beauty of it is that you don’t get trial runs on the day. Everything has to come into play. Your strength, your fitness, your balance. That’s what makes it one of the best courses in the whole world.”

Good luck in the final Gary!
