THE former Sector Inspector for Cookstown, Sue Steen, is captaining the PSNI team at the World Police and Fire Games.

Now the PSNI area commander for Fermanagh and Omagh, the Belfast-born Chief Inspector is a former hockey player who currently coaches the PSNI ladies’ hockey team.

She said she was ‘delighted’ to be chosen as PSNI Team Captain. Since September Chief Inspector Sue Steen has been involved in choosing the team kit for the Opening Ceremony. She also acts as a conduit between the PSNI team and the organisers of the games.

In 2013 there will be 56 sports held at 41 venues across Northern Ireland including Cookstown, with over 7,000 competitors from over 60 countries taking part.

The Half-Marathon was one of the events taking place outside Belfast. Crowds lined Cookstown’s streets on Sunday (August 4) as the athletes set off on their 13 mile journey, which took them from the Mid-Ulster Sports Arena into the town centre and out towards Lissan. They then made their way back through Cookstown, ending at MUSA.
