FOUR Magherafelt groups have been awarded grants totalling £21,489 which will enable them to carry out energy saving improvements.
Loup Womens Group, TABBDA Company Limited, Upperlands Community Development Ltd and Woods Parish Church will use the money from the Big Lottery Fund to boost energy efficiency at their premises.
The South Derry groups are four of 62 across the province that were awarded cash in the grants roll out.
Loup Womens Group will use a £4,700 grant to install new PVC windows and draught proofing in their community venue as well as buying a range of energy efficient white goods.
An energy audit will also be carried out to find out where they are wasting energy and identify the improvements they may need to make in the future.
Ballyronan’s TABBDA Company Limited, who were awarded £7,622, are set to replace an external main entrance door in their venue to reduce heat loss. They will also carry out an energy audit to find out where they are wasting energy and identify the improvements they may need to make in the future.
A grant of £6,181 will be used by Upperlands Community Development Ltd to install loft insulation and energy efficient lighting. They will also carry out an energy audit to find out where they are wasting energy and identify the improvements they may need to make in the future.
Woods Parish Church will use the Big Lottery fund cash injection of £2,986 to replace the current white goods in their community venue with new a-rated energy efficient models.
They will also replace their current boiler with a modern, energy efficient one.
Speaking about the grant boost for the local groups Big Lottery Fund’s NI Chair , Frank Hewitt, said: “The Energy Efficient Venues programme supports community organisations to carry out energy efficiency improvements to their venues that help them make savings during this difficult period of recession, and have a positive effect on the environment”
“The programme is open for applications, but organisations should be aware that it closes at 12 noon on Friday 1 June 2012.”
