Fresh round of protests against Brexit on Tyrone border

Farmers, business people and local politicians have joined other members of the new campaign group “Border Communities Against Brexit and will attend a protest today (Saturday) at Moy Bridge, Aughnacloy at 10am.

Paul Gibbons, a spokesperson for the group said that people living in border counties do not want to see a return to the days of border checks.

Representatives of businesses, trade unions, charities, disability advocacy organisations, community groups and others have come together to form Border Communities Against Brexit.

Another spokesperson for the group criticised the British government for jeopardising the future of border counties.

“They want us to go on the road to nowhere with them, that could actually be the road to hell as far as I am concerned,” said John Sheridan.

“This will leave six counties in complete isolation leading to a complete lack of investment as the younger generation move away to find themselves a life. God help us in two or three years.”

The campaign group will be holding ‘a white line protest’ at the border.
