Both the BBC and RTE paid tribute to GAA star Aaron Devlin as they remembered the year’s lost sports stars at their Sports Personality Awards over the weekend.

BBC Sports Personality took place at SSE Arena in Belfast last night [Sunday], while the RTE Sports Awards were held on Saturday.

Both ceremonies always take a moment to honour sports stars who have passed away in the last 12 months and Aaron, who played for both Derry and Ballinderry GAA, was included in both reels.

The 23-year-old physiotherapist sadly passed away in July after contracting the brain virus meningitis.

His illness saw both the GAA and Ballinderry communities pull together in support of his family, before joining them in grief at his passing.

Three months after his death Aaron’s family linked up with Meningitis Now and O’Neills to design a special fundraising jersey in his memory in the run up to Christmas.

The jersey features Aaron's nicknames and is said to pay tribute to his character
