Cookstown and Magherafelt Volunteer Centre successfully hosted their first Volunteer Recognition Awards in InVOLve House, Magherafelt to coincide with International Volunteer Day.

Over 150 volunteers had been nominated by organisations throughout the Mid Ulster area and the award ceremony recognised the contribution and commitment they make to the local community.

Almost 80 volunteers along with guests attended the event and were presented with certificates by John McLaughlin, Chief Executive Magherafelt District Council.

Barbara Kennedy, Recruitment and Placement Officer said “Recognition Awards are a great way to recognise and thank those who give up their time freely to help their local community, some of whom have been actively volunteering for over 30 years.”

Cookstown and Magherafelt Volunteer Centre would like to thank Magherafelt District Council Good Relations, for funding the event and also the following local businesses for donations towards a raffle on the night:

Moes Grill Castledawson, Dunnes Stores, McLean Fuels, Mary’s Bar, TAAJ Restaurant & Lounge, Cuddys, Simplicity Restaurant, Subway and InVOLve House.

Their support is very much appreciated. After the presentations and raffle everyone enjoyed a hot finger buffet.
