The 70 year old Kildress businessman, aimed to raise £70,000 through the event for two local charities, Action MS and Saint Vincent De Paul, was warmly welcomed in his hometown to complete the final leg of the challenge.

Des set out on the incredible 5 day challenge on Tuesday, which saw him push his Stanley Cooker an impressive 40 miles across 20 towns in Northern Ireland, including Omagh, Limivady, Ballymena, Lisburn, Armagh, Newry, Ballycastle and Derry.

Speaking at the finish line in Cookstown Des said: “It’s been a really fantastic week and the support has been overwhelming from the pubic along the way has been brilliant.

“Everyone really has got behind us and that helped to keep us going. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who came out and cheered us on and who donated their hard earned money to these charities.

Financially everyone is still feeling the pinch at the moment but its heart-warming to see the abundant generosity of the community, who are always willing to give what they can to help others in need. A big thank you to all!”

The final stage of the fundraiser is a Grand Gala Dinner and concert by Dominic Kirwan which takes place on Friday 20th June in Glenaver House Hotel.

Tickets are still available to purchase from Kildress Plumbing Supplies if you would like to support Des’ fundraising campaign, with all proceeds in aid of Action MS, Saint Vincent De Paul and Friends of Kildress charities.
