The 82-year-old woman who died after a road crash near Knockloughrim last weekend has been named as Vera Young.

The great-grandmother was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a two-car collision at the junction of the Glenshane and Lurganagoose roads on Sunday August 2 around 3pm.

The pensioner, who lived on the Carraloan Road between Magherafelt and Ballyronan, passed away at Antrim Area Hospital on Thursday.

Wife of the late Samuel and mother to the late John-Wallace, she leaves behind children Margaret, Gordon, Selina, Eileen, Ruth and Noel.

Mrs Young was laid to rest in Woods Parish Churchyard after a funeral service at Garvin’s Home, Magherafelt yesterday [Sunday].

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Inspector Amanda Kenny said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of the junction of Lurganagoose Road at approximately 3pm and who may have witnessed this incident which involved a grey Volkswagen Jetta and a black Mitsubishi Jeep to contact police at Magherafelt on the non-emergency number 101.”
