COOKSTOWN Leisure Centre has become so popular it has recorded its highest revenue ever.
The Council-run venue quoted a huge increase in income for September of over £82,000.
And the plush new evolve Fitness Suite at the leisure centre also saw a boost in income - up by almost £50,000 on the same period last year.
The Council took over the running of the gym from a private franchise and early last year invested in a major refurbishment.
Indeed the gym has proved so popular that a major extension is underway to accommodate the increased number of members and casual visitors.
Liam Glavin, Leisure Services Manager said each month from April to September this year had been up on the same period last year.
He said there had been a significant increase in footfall since last year and he praised the friendly, hard-working staff at the centre for their dedication and professionalism.
He revealed the centre had been awarded the Quest Quality Award with the highest mark ever received by a first time applicant.
Mr Glavin said the centre had an excellent reputation as being clean and friendly which attracted visitors from throughout the district and beyond.
And he said despite the recession, people still felt the need to keep fit and a session at the centre can be a lot cheaper than some other hobbies and family pursuits. He revealed that the centre has also hooked up with the Public Health Agency. Fully trained instructors are working closely with people referred by their GP to help them with exercise and nutritional advice.
