One Shot – One Life

Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is part of a major project which is known as The Measles Initiative and includes many international organisations including UNICEF, and the World Health Organisation. The initiative plans to vaccinate 157 million children this year at the cost of one dollar ($1) per child.

Measles have almost been wiped out in the western world, however in the developing world measles is a killer. Ninety percent of those without immunity will quickly contract measles when exposed to the virus. Yet one vaccination is safe, effective and provides immunity for life. In the developing world 165,000 children are dying each year this relates to 450 deaths per day, yes per day.

When the cost has been broken down through Lions Clubs world wide it has been decided that Lions Clubs in Ireland will contribution of $25.000 towards this initiative.

Lion President Emma confirms that Cookstown and Magherafelt Lions Club have already played their part in this initiative and again thanks the local community for their support and so allowed our club to take part in this wonderful life saving initiative. Hence One Shot – One Life.
