A new commemorative stamp featuring poet and Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney has been issued in the Republic of Ireland.
The stamp was released on Thursday, and features a black and white photograph
of the late south Derry poet.
A special first-day cover envelope showed an extract from his 1969 poem,
“We are immensely moved that An Post has chosen to mark Dad’s memory with the issue of this stamp,” said his son Michael.
“The year since he died has been a sad time for our family, but this is not only a wonderful testament to his life and work, but also a reminder of the generosity and support people have shown since Dad’s passing.”
Mr Heaney died in August last year, aged 74, following a period of ill health.
Events to commemorate his death will be taking place in the Magherafelt district in coming days.
