A charity golf classic to be held in Killymoon Golf Club next month is aiming to create greater awareness for suicide prevention and cancer.

The event which is set to take place on August 10, will raise funds for two charities, LILAC Cancer Care and Suicide Prevention.

Organiser Michael Gallagher said the two charities were chosen for the great work they provide within the local communities.

“My reason for choosing the two charities was that my sister works for Suicide Awareness and Prevention and my father works for LILAC and I have seen first hand the great work that both these charities do to help those in need in our local areas.”

LILAC which stands for (Living is Life After Cancer) was established in 2003 in response to an identified need in our community for emotional support for cancer sufferers and their families.

LiLAC is a local self-help support group committed to caring, listening to and supporting those affected by cancer and their families in an informal, caring and confidential environment.

Their premises in Coalisland provides a base for get-togethers. Cancer patients and their families can discuss their needs and obtain up-to-date information.

Information regarding their illness helps cancer patients to understand their illness better so they can in turn make more informed choices about their treatment and future.

There is also a coffee morning in LILAC house every Friday morning to give the opportunity for cancer patients and their families to get support from others in similar circumstances.

Entries to the golf classic cost £50 per team and it is open to both members and visitors, fee can be paid on entry. Numerous great prizes will be on offer for teams and individuals and there are also separate prizes on offer for non GUI handicap holders. Local company DEA are the main sponsors for the event.
